Coffee Table Tips

Your coffee table height should be more or less the same height as the seat of your sofa. I recommend 16 to 18 inches high and positioned 15 to18 inches away from the sofa. Use a table appropriate to the size of the sofa it accompanies. A giant-size table is not gracious and takes up too much space. Chinese tables are popular because they fit into traditional or contemporary schemes. If there are children around, the safest option is an ottoman. If the room calls for formality, dress up the ottoman with fringe or nail head trim.

My favorite accessory is a floral arrangement or a green plant in a vase or vessel. Make sure flowers are not so tall that they interfere with conversation. There are numerous other items that make nice accessories, including books, candles, etc. Make sure the coffee table is not too large or heavy. You will want to easily maneuver around or move it.
